2024 – SO Much To Be Thankful For!

Having just celebrated Thanksgiving, we at Body & Soul Ministries want to take this time to give THANKS to all of YOU, our loyal, generous and committed PARTNERS! It is your contributions to this work that are changing thousands of lives around the world. Our three primary projects – eye surgery camps in Indonesia, English schools for the poor in Vietnam and building human trafficking safe houses in Southeast Asia – continue to be in great shape and have had a great year. And we were also in a position this year to help make a difference in two additional projects in Ethiopia and Kenya.

As Body & Soul gears-up for our End-of-the-Year Donation Drive, we just want to remind you once again of the profound effect your giving has had. In order to help “tell the story” of that life-changing work, we have always been committed to documenting these projects through photos and videos so that YOU, our partners, will have a more complete picture of where your contributions are going and to help you more closely identify with the individuals that YOU are actually and directly helping.

Nias Island – October Eye Surgery Camp

We had an amazing, record-breaking eye surgery camp on the island of Nias, off the northwest coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. 506 eyes were operated on – breaking the previous record by almost 100 eyes! Body & Soul Ministries (partnering with Caris Foundation) has been coming to Sumatra since 2005 – where we have performed 11,552 surgeries since the project’s inception. We ended up giving sight to 838 eyes in 2024!

Northern Sumatra – March Eye Surgery Camps

The first day of our 3-day eye surgery camps in Northern Sumatra went very well. We had a busy day in Batu Bara – 84 eyes now see! We also had the opportunity to meet with government officials to discuss our upcoming surgery camps. We ended up doing a total of 332 eyes at the three sites in March.

Vietnam – Connor English Centers

Body & Soul Ministries English schools in Can Tho, Southern Vietnam are thriving. We now have a total of 375 students – 225 in Can Tho City and 150 in nearby Has Giang Village. Director Ngan Huynh and all of the teachers are doing an amazing job and have made an enormous difference in their communities.

Laos – Human Trafficking Safe House

The construction of the new safe house in Luang Prabang, Northern Laos, that Body & Soul Ministries is partnering with Save Asian Souls to build, is coming along nicely. As the case with all of the safe houses we have assisted in building, the goal is to rescue these young girls who would possibly become targets for human trafficking to other countries. They will be going to school, living in safety and are assisted with vocational education and job placement.

Ethiopia – Water Well Drilling

We were able to donate to East AfriCare to drill five new water wells in the Sidama Region in the southern part of Ethiopia. East AfriCare is an NGO doing not only water well drilling (including the hand pumps), but they also operate deaf schools and medical clinics.

Kenya – New Girls Dormatory

The work of Made in the Streets (MITS) has been changing the lives of street children in Nairobi since 1995. Their mission is to meet these children’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs, equipping them to earn a living and sending them out to a new life. The new dormatory we were able to help with will be named “Rose Hall” in honor of Rosalyn Bailey, wife of Dr. John C. Bailey, founder of Body & Soul Ministries.
